Palmer FCCLA- Reading on the Yardline
Palmer High School FCCLA hosted a family literacy event this past November in honor of National Family Literacy Month. Reading on the Yard Line focused on the national program Families First, by encouraging families to get together to spend time with each other and read while on the football field.
Palmer FCCLA members held a book drive before the event with the goal in mind to provide each child that attended the event with at least one new or gently used book. With the help of the community over 400 books were donated to pass out to the kids!
The event had a great turnout for a rainy, windy week with about 100 people. Participants brought blankets to lay on the football field as they read and were also able to participate in story time on the 50 yard line, a scavenger-hunt, face painting, a photo booth and had a special appearance by the school mascot.
Palmer FCCLA had many partnerships to make this event a success including the high school yearbook team, PHS Varsity Cheer team and the Palmer Elementary administration. By the request of event participants and others in the community Palmer FCCLA hopes to make this an annual event!
