Champion Food Drive- October 2017

Every year, the Champion High School FCCLA chapter hosts a food drive for the Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries, a local organization dedicated to serving the community. Members decorated envelopes after school, during the first week of October to send out invitations to the Countrybend community members. Each letter was personalized with festive decorations and messages. The community was asked to leave donations on their porch in order to be collected for the drive.

On Sunday, October 22, advisor Lynnese Graves mapped out the neighborhood and assigned each group a different area to collect donations. Several members wore costumes to celebrate the Halloween tradition. Their goal every year is to collect 600 pounds worth of donations.

After school the following Monday, chapter members met again to weigh and drop off the collected items. Members collected a total of 550+ pounds of food for HCDB to distribute to local counties. Volunteers that helped unload and weigh donations were then given a tour of the warehouse where they store, package, and distribute food, clothes, books, etc. to families in need of assistance. Volunteers also learned about ways to get involved through HCDB and other similar institutions.
