San Angelo Central Kicked off "X the Text" Campaign

San Angelo Central High School FCCLA kicked off the "X the Text" campaign at the Varsity Football game on Oct. 28.  The Central Freshman Campus FCCLA joined with them to help raise awareness on the dangers of texting and driving.  FCCLA partnered with Allstate Insurance to promote this project and local agent, Mark Vega, attended the kick off to give support.  Students and adults who took the pledge place their thumb print on a banner and were given a "thumb ring" to remind them that "texting kills".  Allstate also provided a driving simulator that the students used at the school.  Students had the opportunity to "test drive" the simulator and to realize what was really happening when they texted while trying to drive.  The Central Freshman Campus and Lakeview High School also used the simulator during the week.
Members also made Public Service Announcements during the week and Lakeview High School FCCLA closed out the project at their football game on November 4.
This project was successful in not only reaching the young drivers but also the adult drivers in San Angelo.
