COMPETITIVE EVENTS
STAR / Proficiency Events

  STAR events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) are competitive events in which
members are recognizied for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects,
leadership skills, and career preparation, STAR Events offer individual skill development and
application of learning throught the following activities --

      Cooperative - teams work to accomplish specific goals
        Individualized -- members work alone to accomplish specific goals
        Competitive - individual or team performance measured by an established set of critieria

  Proficiency Events are competitive events exclusively for Texas.  Winners at the regional
meetings can only advance to the State level.

Top 6 winners at the region meetings advance to the State Leadership Conference.
Lifesmarts
  LifeSmarts is a flexible classroom or group activity that teaches teens to be smart
and responsible consumers and citizens. The content and competition questions
focus on five key areas of consumer knowledge that teens need to know to
function effectively in today's marketplace.

Leadership Enhancement Opportunities (LEO)
  Leadership Enhancement Opportunities are objective tests given to FCCLA
members at fall leadership trainings, regional FCCLA meetings and at the State
Leadership Conference.  Students may take the tests at all meetings, but may only
take one test at each.

      There are twelve objective tests available.

Students are awarded medals for gold, silver and bronze scores.
Participants below bronze score will receive a participation certificate.




Family Consumer Sciences Knowledge Bowl
  Family and Consumer Sciences Knowledge Bowl is a four-level, team competition that
challenges students' knowledge of all aspects of Family and Consumer Sciences.

                                         Family, Career and Community Studies
                                           Early Childhood & Human Development
                                           Food Sciences, Dietetics and Nutrition
                                           Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation
                                           Fashion & Housing Design
                                           FCCLA Knowledge

Level 1 starts online and Level 4 ends at the National Leadership Conference
